Batten Family Cookbook

Hi, everyone!

I hope this finds you well.  As you may know, Donna Love put together a family cookbook 25 years ago which many of us cherish and still put to use.  A lot of time has passed since then, and thank goodness because Donna’s stories about compiling the book in the Dark Ages sounds venturesome, and so does the thought of doing this with her son Matty on our laps like she did back then - he’s grown into a very big man now, ouch!

We’ve decided to create a new edition of the cookbook and would love for you to contribute your favorite recipes! We’re going to find a way to include the favorites from the first edition, but also get NEW recipes from this era’s Batten family… The last one involved a surprising amount of mayonnaise.

And to help spread the word, please share this on social media and also in that crazy and old method… I think they called it “talking to people”  and used telephones attached to walls? Sounds awful!  Please send it to your kids, etc. so they will get our contact info & send their recipes to us.

Your contributions to the cookbook will help to preserve our family’s traditions and create a keepsake that we can all enjoy for years to come.  We’re really excited about this project and hope that you will consider sharing your favorite recipes.  We thank you in advance!

To submit a recipe use the form below:

  • Just fill out the form and hit “submit.”

  • Please submit as many recipes as you like!

  • We’ll add your email to a newsletter so we can keep you informed as we put this together and get your feedback as we work to curate the book - so submit your first recipe ASAP so we can start communicating. We’ll be asking for everyone’s favorite recipes from the original version you’d want included in the new cookbook!

Or:

  • It’s a huge help if everyone uses the form, but if needed you can upload a picture of recipe cards and email them to hello@acutepost.com.  Please try to include the info from the intake form on this page in the email, as applicable.

The deadline to be included in the cookbook is September 4th, 2023!

A Batten Family Cookbook Website?!

YES!  Our goal is to showcase the culinary talents of our family and to keep our traditions alive.  There are two ways we hope to achieve this.

  • First, of course, is a new print of the Batten Family Cookbook.

  • Second, is to bring these recipes online into a website.  This is optional!

The original cookbook had over 275 recipes, but our family has gotten much larger, and so we expect to gather an extensive collection of our favorite recipes that can be shared with family, friends, and the world.  And probably could fill several great cookbooks!

By opting-in with each recipe, you can help us create something truly special. You can choose to allow your recipe to be added to our website recipe collection, where it will be shared with others who appreciate good food and family traditions, or choose to keep it only available in the printed edition of the family cookbook (if selected - it’ll be competitive!).

There are so many cool possibilities we can build together, and going online allows our history to be accessible and to be kept alive and passed down for generations.  For example, Kevin’s mom has tons of great recipes she collected, and he and his sisters (mostly them hopefully)  will do the work to make them digital and to keep her recipes alive even though they might not be in the printed book.

We don’t know how a website could evolve, it’s up to us!  It could someday maybe generate revenue, and if that happens we’ll decide on a fair way and transparent way to share that.  Though this is unlikely, it's fair for all to be informed of the exciting potential upfront.

It will not be on acutepost.com.  This is just Kevin’s website temporarily being used to automate the process.

We invite you to join us on this exciting journey and contribute your favorite recipes to our project. Together, we can create a legacy of family recipes that will be cherished for years to come!

Best regards,

Kevin Schmidt & Donna Love
